One Cool Thing

A mobile application conceived, designed, built and managed entirely by the talented staff in the Communications & Marketing office at the University of Michigan College of Engineering. Over the course of six months, I worked with our Executive Director Dan Kim to conceptualize, plan, develop and launch this app. This work included creating a manifesto, user personas and content to reach out target audience; overseeing the work and managing the timeline of a web developer and editor to build the app; and building a marketing plan to promote it.

The app provides a daily feed of one cool piece of science, technology and engineering news from around the world. Its “Decoder” feature uses camera-recognition technology to recognize pages in our magazine and provide bonus content such as 3D models, videos and web content.

Since its launch, we have presented the process and concept at two different conferences.
